Intern Spotlight: Liz Mazzella

Meet one of MKSD’s summer interns, Liz Mazzella! Liz has been working hard the last few weeks preparing presentations, helping with schematic design, and organizing the materials library. She was eager to have the opportunity to help with Let’s Build Camp for Girls on the day they visited the job site of one of MKSD’s projects because it was her first time on a construction site as an architectural student. We are happy to have Liz on the team this summer and excited for her future in architecture.

Where do you go to college and what has been your favorite class?

I am going into my third year at Kent State University. Studio has been and will always be my favorite class. I love being able to work for hours on a project while being around my friends and listening to lots of good music while I work.

What did you think you were going to be when you grew up?

I thought for the longest time that I was going to be a cupcake baker. I absolutely loved (and still love) baking with my mom, and both of my grandmothers. I was addicted to the show “Cupcake Wars” and always thought I could be on that show one day. I even did a career project in elementary school where I researched how I could open up my own bakery.

What keeps you motivated and/or inspired?

My whole family has always been my inspiration for a lot of what I do, and what I try to achieve. They all work incredibly hard and have taught me so much along the way. Whenever I have felt at my lowest, they have been there to remind me how much I am loved, and how much I am capable of. There is absolutely no way I could be where I am in my life without all of them.
