Student Shadow Day at MKSD: A Glimpse into the Practice of Architecture

At MKSD, we believe in the importance of mentorship and supporting emerging professionals in architecture, interior design, and construction. As part of that commitment, we recently welcomed four college students to our office for a Student Shadow Day—an opportunity to gain real-world insight into the architecture and design industry.

Throughout the day, the students observed and engaged in discussions with members of our team, exploring the many facets of architectural practice. Topics included project management, construction administration, the design process, the intern experience, and how we approach professional development across various disciplines.

Our visitors included:

  • Rose Hunsicker, a sophomore Interior Architecture major at Chatham University
  • Annabel Adams, a junior Architecture major at Marywood University
  • Sophia Lavigna, a senior Architecture major at Penn State
  • Grant Dieter, a junior Engineering major at Northampton Community College

Each student brought thoughtful questions and a genuine interest in understanding the day-to-day responsibilities of architects and designers. They had the opportunity to sit in on project reviews, learn how we collaborate across disciplines, and see firsthand how design concepts evolve into fully realized buildings.

Shadow days like this offer meaningful exposure to the working world and provide a clearer picture of the different career paths available within architecture, engineering, and design. We’re grateful to Rose, Annabel, Sophia, and Grant for spending the day with us and wish them the best as they continue their academic and professional journeys.
