NASD Northampton High School
MKSD architects transformed the Northampton Area High School by aligning facility conditions and space usage with a visionary design for flexible, collaborative learning. The project involved transforming 187,000 square feet of existing space to meet modern educational trends through a carefully phased construction. A 116,000 square feet new addition, which included a cafeteria, gym complex and classrooms, was designed to accommodate the needs of current and future students.
The project also implemented a complete ADA and current building code upgrades to the existing high school, while providing expansion of specific programs through a series of carefully planned and phased additions.
The project included utility improvements and infrastructure upgrades with easily maintained mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems that are energy and operationally efficient.
This project helped the district meet educational program needs and the growing student population.
The new construction featured:
- New 16,500 sf gymnasium with bleacher seating for 1,800
- New locker rooms/Toilet rooms
- New Team rooms
- New wrestling room
- New auxiliary gymnasium
- New Athletic offices
- 23 new classrooms
- Expanded art and music spaces
- 11 new science labs with storage space
- New cafeteria facility with an 8,000-sf dining area and 6,000 sf kitchen
- Expanded library
- New Administration suite with secure entry vestibules
