MKSD architects is Recognized as the Women-Owned Business of the Year

On December 4^th MKSD was honored to be recognized by Lehigh Valley Business as the Women- Owned Business of the Year for 2019.  MKSD architects is a progressive and visionary architectural firm founded in 2005. We believe in “Design, for Everyone. Equally.” and have built a strong culture where everyone is valued, included and empowered. This is important to us because we believe our clients and projects reflect our culture and our values: Perseverance, Fearlessness, Passion, Honesty, Selflessness and Progressive Thinking.

As an architectural firm, MKSD is in a particularly challenging space. Not only are we a woman-owned business, but we are a woman-owned business in a profession that is historically male dominated with very few women in ownership positions. The lack of gender diversity in architecture has been called ‘shocking’ by the American Institute of Architects. Women make up ½ of students in architecture school, yet only 20% of licensed architects are women. Even worse, only 17% of architecture firms are women-owned or have female partners. The number of women in architecture firms decreases with each ascending tier of management.

MKSD believes in the collaborative nature of design. We give a voice to all stakeholders in the design process and this has resulted in successful and meaningful projects, from transformative renovations to highly complex new building types.  We work closely with our clients to hear each voice and create a design that incorporates their mission, vision and passion.  We are committed to going “Beyond the Building”.
