Intern Spotlight: Kylee Polash
Kylee joined the MKSD team as one our summer interns in mid-May – seems crazy it is already the end…
Read More >Megan joined the MKSD team in July of 2019 as an architectural designer. Megan is a “Jersey girl”, but after graduating from Philadelphia University (now known as Jefferson University) she landed in the Lehigh Valley. Never one to sit idle, Megan is always contributing to the team, the Eastern PA chapter of the AIA and volunteering in the community. We hope she is happy here in the Lehigh Valley with her fiancé Dylon and her adorable corgi Bubs, because we sure are happy she is on the MKSD team! Here are a few questions that she answered for us so that we could find out more about her.
Give us a quick rundown of your LinkedIn/resume.
My first job was with J2N Architects in Jefferson, NJ back in 2007 – I went to a vo-tech school so I was able to work part time. I then went to college at Jefferson University (aka PhilaU, aka Textiles…) for architecture and upon graduating did NOT get a job in architecture! Instead, I served as an Americorps VISTA for Habitat Philadelphia which transitioned to full time. After a few years I was ready to jump back into architecture which led me to the Lehigh Valley. I have worked for a few firms in the area with experience in residential, commercial, and healthcare.
Where did you go to college and what was your favorite class?
Jefferson University (it is still difficult to call it that!). My favorite class was actually not an architecture course. I co-led a class on community service for Freshman students. The purpose of the course was to give back to our surrounding community and give them the opportunity to explore Philadelphia on an intimate level.
Who is your favorite architect/designer and why?
The truth is, I don’t have one! I am not drawn to a specific person, style, or building. I think the beauty of architecture lies in the simple idea that we are designing/building places for humanity to prosper. Architecture is shaped by so many aspects – needs, culture, weather, etc. – one person cannot personify all of it.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
There is endless opportunity for growth, and you learn something new every day!
What are three things you can’t live without in your workspace?
My essential oil diffuser, water, and felt tip pens!
What is one unique thing that others may not know about you?
I played roller derby for Two Rivers for a few years! I still have my skates and like to go skating occasionally.
What are some of your career goals?
I have ONE MORE exam to go to be a licensed architect! After that, I hope to continue my growth at MKSD – time will tell where that will lead me 😊
