Northampton Community College Center – Design Study

Northampton Community College is a leading higher ed institution located in Bethlehem, Pa. A long-term client, NCC approached MKSD to develop a concept for improving the College Center building, which houses classrooms, the cafeteria, the student life zone, and other support spaces.

The conceptual solution developed a two-story addition that is open to the main level entry floor and Laub Lounge on the second floor. The addition includes a glass façade which brings in much-needed light into the core of the building. This addition creates an open multi-use space on the first floor. A new large open stair and second-floor open balcony makes wayfinding to the second floor clear and acts as a lively and engaging connector between floors where students can gather.
