Quakertown Amphitheater Wins AIA EPA Special Citation Award
UPDATE: The AIA Eastern PA website has been updated to include the winners!
The sculptural form of the amphitheater is detailed with a high level of competency. The thoughtful selection and application of the materials work well with the public use of the structure.
The light expression of the canopy in relationship to the heaviness of the walls, seating and materials create an interesting dichotomy that is resolved through clear attention to detail and making; ultimately creating a well built and competent project. “
Last week, the Krupp Amphitheater project received a Special Citation for Eclectic Architecture Award at the AIA Eastern PA ceremony.
During the presentation of the award, the lead juror complimented the design for its material choice and form; noting that the butterfly roof helps to imply a second stage on the rear of the structure.
MKSD staff attended the ceremony, including Christian Didra, who was the lead designer of the amphitheater. Christian began the design in 2012, and saw it through to August 2015 when construction was completed.
The amphitheater is a beautiful addition to Krupps Park, which you can visit at 4th & Mill Streets in Quakertown.
